FAQ

Q: When did you open KIS Thrift?
A: March 2025. We operated a much smaller thrift store in Hartford Village for about a year before that.

Q: What does “KIS” stand for?
A: Koalas in Slovenia. Just kidding! Keep It Simple!

Q: Where do you get your inventory?
A: Most of our inventory comes from our partnership with KIS Clean Outs. The clean outs crew salvages unwanted goods, and the thrift crew works to find their next homes. We also partner with some great vendors who sell curated wares in the first corner of the store.

Q: Do you accept donations?
A: At this time, we cannot accept any drop-offs at our store without prior approval. For more info, please visit our donations policy page.

Q: Will you pick up my items?
A: KIS Thrift is unable to pick up items. For more info, please visit our donations policy page or inquire with KIS Clean Outs about pick-up services.

Q: Do you buy used items? Do you offer consignment?
A: We do not offer these services at this time.

Q: Are you looking for more vendors?
A: Our vendor space is currently full. Please feel free to email info@kisthrift.com and we can be in touch if space opens up.

Q: Are you hiring?
A: We do not currently have any open positions. Please feel free to inquire about future openings by emailing info@kisthrift.com.

Q: Where can I see what you have for sale?
A: We list a small number of items on Facebook Marketplace under the name “Margaret Cassidy” (long story). We also promote some items on our Instagram and Facebook pages. Our inventory changes quickly, so we recommend adding us to your regular shopping route so you can thrift your favorite finds before someone else does!

Q: Will you hold items for me?
A: Sorry, no unpaid holds & in-person payments only. Once you have paid for large furniture at the store, we will hold it for pickup for 48 hours max. Due to limited space in our processing area and the value of space on our sales floor, we appreciate pickups within 24 hours when possible. Thank you for understanding!

Q: Do you deliver items? How about shipping?
A: Sorry, no delivery & no shipping (no exceptions).

Q: What payment types do you accept?
A: We accept cash, card and check, as well as tap (e.g. Apple Pay). We have a $5 minimum for card & tap sales, which allows us to avoid processing fees and keep prices low! In-person payments only.

Q: Is there sales tax?
A: Yes, 6% for the state of Vermont and 1% for the town of Hartford.

Q: What is your returns policy?
A: All sales final / no returns. At the time of your purchase, talk to your cashier about exceptions for items that need to be tested at home. These may be eligible for exchange (store credit) with receipt within 7 days. No refunds.

Q: Are you a non-profit?
A: No, we’re a locally owned for-profit business partnered with KIS Clean Outs. We consider our mission to be keeping waste out of the landfill while supporting our staff with livable wages and our neighbors with affordable goods. And we try to create a fun space for our community, too! Read more on our “about” page.

Q: What kinds of services does KIS Clean Outs offer?
A: Their friendly and professional crew does it all, from junk pickups to whole-house clean outs (hauling away packed or unpacked estates). Check out their immaculate Google reviews to get a sense of their offerings.

Q: I’m selling my home or downsizing. How do I book a clean out?

Q: Where is Wilder?
A: You might have heard of White River Junction, which is pretty crazy. There’s a village to the north and it’s Wilder.

Q: Who is Bob Darling?
A: International man of mystery.

Q: Why penguins?
A: They are soooo cute.

Q: How do I keep in touch?
A: Follow our Instagram and Facebook pages. Sign up for our newsletter. And visit the store! We’ll see you in Wilder. :)
