For the KIS Thrift store sign, Duncan wanted to combine our new KIS house logo (which, of course, he designed) with the fun colorful vibes you think of at KIS Thrift and the natural motifs of the Upper Valley, where he grew up. He knew the sign out front would be surrounded by green grass and thought, “Let’s raise it up, but kind of keep the grass.” “And then it just kind of spiraled into a bunch of late nights,” he said. He went outside for some natural inspiration, clocking birch trees, acorns, pine cones and flowers. But he also was inspired by something before he even left the house: a Yankee candle on his kitchen counter adorned with a similar leafy style. When it was time to draw, he started with sketching — “super, super rough” — then blurred the overall image to make the lines real thick, then traced. He fiddled around with the contrast and other settings to come up with the ultimate design … and behold! Now we’ve got a beautiful new sign for you to admire.
